Vishal Bhardwaj has stated that Aamir Khan is “responsible” for Saif Ali Khan’s casting in Omkara.

Saif Ali Khan gained fame for his role in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara, but the director previously expressed his desire to play Langda Tyagi.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2006 drama Omkara, starring Saif Ali Khan as the cunning Langda Tyagi, has received high praise for his performance. Aamir Khan was once considered for the role, but the director revealed the entire story and decided to cast Saif instead.

Vishal Bhardwaj revealed that Aamir Khan wanted to play Langda Tyagi in Omkara, but it was later played by Saif Ali Khan. Bhardwaj said he was responsible for Saif’s role and planned a film with Aamir, where they would interact. Bhardwaj also mentioned he wanted to adapt Othello, which excited Aamir, who expressed interest in being considered for Langda Tyagi in the film.

The director, who had been working on a film for 1.5 years, decided to make it if the character could excite Aamir. He had seen Saif’s work and decided to cast him in the role, which ultimately went to Saif.

When asked about why Aamir did not do Omkara, Bhardwaj revealed: “He was busy, he did Rang De Basanti, and I didn’t want to get stuck for another one and a half years. I wanted to (make the film), with whoever I get.”

Omkara, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and written by Bhardwaj, Chaubey, and Bhatt, is a Shakespearean adaptation of Othello, starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Konkana Sen Sharma, Vivek Oberoi, and Bipasha Basu.

The 2006 film, released in India, was a critical and commercial success, winning three National Film Awards, with Sharma winning Best Supporting Actress and Saif praised for his portrayal of a rugged criminal from UP.
